A study that was published in the Public health Nutrition Journal was done by scientist from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the University of Granada. This study took up the subject of eating fast foods and baked goods being linked to depression. Great that’s all I need to know that the food I eat is what is causing me to feel blue. The results of the test show that people who do eat fast foods when compared to those who eat little or none are 51% more likely to develop depression. Sanchez-Villegas, lead author of the study stated:

“The more fast food you consume, the greater the risk of depression.”

The study reveals that participants who eat the most fast food and commercial baked goods are more likely to be single, less active and have poor dietary habits. They eat less fruit, nuts, and fish, vegetables and olive oil. They are also smoking and working more than 45 hours per week.

The study was made up of 8,964 participants that had never been diagnosed with depression or taken antidepressants. They were assessed for six months, and 493 were diagnosed with depression or started to take antidepressants. Information came from the SUN project from the University of Navarra Diet and Lifestyle Tracking Program.

Sanchez-Villegas concludes: “although more studies are necessary, the intake of this type of food should be controlled because of its implications on both health and mental wellness.” The thing that these kinds of studies make clear is that reaching for antidepressants isn’t always the first thing you should think of doing when you’re down. Lifestyle changes can have a huge impact. And if you’re hooked on pharmaceuticals, you can find help–wherever you are! Whether you’re closest to one of the New York drug rehabs, or one on the west or gulf coast, professional help exists.

This whole purpose of this study for me is that when people are depressed the first thing they want to do is get on antidepressants. They don’t really think that it could be their food making them depressed. The taking of drugs is what is more harmful to them. This leads to more drugs like anti anxiety drugs and so on. Drugs are not always the answer to your problems. Something can be done about it. You can find help at a pharmaceutical or benzos rehab near you. Find natural ways to get healthy and stay off drugs.

There are women who use drugs and alcohol for recreation before they know they are pregnant. There are women who keep using and abusing drugs while they are pregnant because they are addicted or they have mental problems that cannot be controlled. So what happens is maternal substance abuse. The fetus grows and develops from the nourishment of the mother via the placenta. Toxins in the mother’s system go to the fetus in the same way and cause damage to the developing fetal organs.

After the baby is born to substance abusing mothers they may have short or long term effects. Withdrawal symptoms range from mild fussiness to significant issues like irritability, feeding, jitteriness and diarrhea. You can look at the baby’s urine or stool and find out clinically what is going on with the baby.

Long term development problems are seen in babies; like growth retardation or various organ problems. These babies may be born with fetal alcohol syndrome. This is including unusual facial features and mental retardation. Some drugs that are used by the mother may cause the baby to have malformations of the heart, brain, bowel or kidneys and that can affect the child for his whole life. If you know a mother-to-be who is addicted to drugs, wherever you are, there’s help available. Whether you need assistance from California drug rehabs or from one on the east coast or midwest, services are available everywhere.

So how do you help a baby in this situation? Well, depending on what drugs the mother used the treatment is usually limiting stimulation to using sedatives. If you use sedatives then you will have to wean or lessen these drugs over days to weeks. If the baby has organ damage it may need medical or surgical therapy and long term assistance. So ladies that recreational bit of drugging and drinking you do may lead to a lifetime of misery with an unborn child. This is another reason we should not do drugs. If you know someone who wants to stop drinking or drugging get them to an in-patient treatment center where they can detox and withdraw in a safe and natural way. Something can be done about it.

A very popular drug and yet it seems that there are numerous studies that continue to come out showing that antidepressants are broadly useless and cause more harm than good. That may be why the market for antidepressants is drying up or maybe it is because the patents of the long-time favorite drugs like Lexapro, owned by Forest labs and Seroquel owned by AstraZeneca are expiring. It seems that the drug companies are unable at this time to develop new multi-billion dollars drugs to take their place or maybe they are just getting rid of the antidepressant business altogether.

A report in Reuters tells of the fact that the development of a new antidepressant drug stopped after it was discovered that the drug was ineffective. In this report they spoke of an overall trend of failure in this area of drug development in the drug industry and it positions drug companies as victims that stand to lose billions in profits as their collective failure to actually come up with a new drug option. According to some projections compiled by Thomson Reuters Pharma, “worldwide sales of antidepressant drugs are expected to drop by more than half in the next four years. While antidepressants drugs raked in $15 billion in 2003, they are expected to fetch less than $6 billion by 2016 – and there is no indication that this downward trend will slow any time soon.”

A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that antidepressants are basically useless for the vast majority of people who take them. Therefore it is obvious that drug-makers appear to be discontinuing research and development of new antidepressants because there is an increasing number of patients that are waking up to the truth about their deadly effects and these patients are changing to safer alternatives.

GlaxoSmithKline did a study that revealed that its own antidepressant drug Paxil actually did make patients worse off mentally; as the patients are more prone while taking the drug to attempt taking their own lives or the lives of others. It makes one wonder whether some of these patients would be better off in a pharmaceuticals or benzos rehab center.

There is no need to feel sorry for these companies. It is good news that their attention will go into another direction and off developing a new antidepressant. This is one of the drugs that many people get on and go doctor shopping for. If you know someone in need of Washington D.C. drug rehabs, or one anywhere else in the country, help is available. Get in touch with professionals now.

Just last week the Lake Charles Police Department went to an incident with a shooting and a stabbing involved. There were three people that were affected in this incident. One victim died from his injuries the other two victims were treated and released from the hospital. One male suspect ran away from this scene. He later carjacked another person and injured him. Needless to say the chase was on. The lake Charles Police Department then located the suspect at the Howard Johnson Express motel where he barricaded himself and would not respond to any negotiations. This was a standoff like you see in the movies. A special team was called in from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s office Response Team and they had armored “Bearcat”. Tear gas was deployed from the “Bearcat” and that caused the suspect to come out and surrender to the LCPD. The suspect was then transported to the LCPD Detective Division for processing then the suspect began to exhibit signs of seizures and began convulsing. The suspect told homicide investigators that he had ingested large amounts of illegal narcotics during the 3 hour standoff. Whether he was an addict in need of Lafayette drug rehabs or simply wanted his life to be over, he certainly took enough to overdose. Acadian Ambulance was immediately notified and transported the suspect to a local hospital.

This suspect was charged with one count of First degree murder, three counts of attempted first degree murder and one count of carjacking.

Later the suspect died and there was no evidence of injury or trauma and the Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s office reported the cause of death was mixed drug intoxication. I suppose this young man knew he was in for it and just took his life. Drugs can do that to you. If you know someone who wants to get off drugs get them to an inpatient treatment center where they can get safe and natural ways to detox and withdraw. Something can be done about it.

The University of Pittsburg Medical Center has the Western Psychiatric Institute and just lately they reported that a 30 year old went on a shooting rampage. The 30 year old was a former mental health patient. After the whole incident law officials went into this 30 year old’s apartment with search warrant and they found 43 different medications. Clearly this individual might have benefited from being not only in a psychiatric institute but one of the Pittsburgh drug rehabs. Now it looks like these drugs played a significant role into his behavior and triggered the shooting.

This event did not hit the media frenzy although it is getting to be an all too common occurrence. Whether we want to accept it or not psychiatric drugs do alter the minds of patients and sometimes they end up going on a violent rampage and the result is people get seriously injured and die. In the case of this 30 year old it is reported

that not only the psychiatric drugs attributed to his situation but the treatment he had received sent him over the edge. Now there are five people injured and one dead.

This 30 year old’s saga started in 2009 at the Portland International Airport in Oregon where he had an exchange with the police. Judge eventually ordered the 30 year old to undergo six months of mental health treatment. This treatment consisted of psychiatric drug regimens with powerful mind altering consequences and it only made things worse for him. The 30 year old had 43 different medications in his apartment that were prescribed by dozens of doctors. He also had some disturbing notes and scribbles on the wall saying that the treatments were causing him some great disabilities. Bottom line all of this medication and the treatment seem to have caused him to go into the crimes he committed. He could have been in a pharmaceuticals or benzos rehab program, but his case was clearly incompetently handled by his doctors. He really felt he had been misdiagnosed and then ordered to take medications for conditions he did not actually have. It was obvious by this time that he had mental issues and instead of helping him they kept giving him more and more drugs so he could not fend for himself. In the end these powerful drugs led him to this destructive behavior and this did not really need to happen.

Just this week it was reported by the Associated Press that 11 students that are in the Jefferson County Public Schools got into sharing some drug-laced brownies and they were suspended. One student at Eastern High School had the idea of bringing some brownies which had marijuana baked into them. So he decided to share with 10 other students. I am sure they all had a great laugh. That is one of the things marijuana can do; make you giggle. It can also make you hungry. The report is not clear as to how they got caught but needless to say they did and were suspended. The question here is how did that student get a hold of marijuana in the first place? From someone who had skipped out of one of our Kentucky drug rehabs? Being a juvenile, it isn’t that easy to deal in drugs. The parents of one 14 year old said her son did not realize the snacks had been tampered with and he threw away most of the one he had been given because it didn’t taste good. So she is definitely appealing his suspension. The school’s official said her son was back in school and was pending the outcome of that appeal.

This is just a testament of what young adults are capable of. No doubt this student’s parents may have had something to do with marijuana being in the household. The more I write these stories the more I am convinced that drugs are everywhere in this country. Nothing surprises me anymore. The craftiness of a drug user is sometimes admirable, albeit this craftiness is leading to harmful effects in their lives. Something can be done about this. Education in the forefront with young adults is much needed. Keeping kids away from marijuana might just keep them from heroin or benzos rehab in the future.

How are you doing today? Are you sad and irritated? Do you consider yourself to be depressed? If you were do you know what symptoms to look for? A symptom is something you feel like a headache and you may even have signs like things other people can notice. Here are some signs and symptoms of depression:

Persistent sadness or low mood, thoughts and feelings of worthlessness, feelings of self hatred, felling of hopelessness, feeling of helplessness, feel like crying, you have guilt and irritability so much so that trivial things become annoying. You have angry outburst and you cannot tolerate certain people. You doubt yourself and you can’t decide on things. You think of harming yourself and maybe even suicide. You worry and you are anxious. Your body may not move as well as it use to. You can’t focus and your speech might be slower. Your eating patterns may change like you don’t eat as much and lose weight or gain weight. You have no sex dive and lack of energy.

Wow I could go on and on but the real thing we need to address is what you do about this depression. If you went to the doctor with most of these symptoms you would absolutely get a prescription of anti depressants. Please do not start to take these medications. Doctors are quick to hand this prescription over to you. There are things you can do to make your life better. Try those first, like get involved with a project that will help you get really busy and industrious. Sometimes all we need is to get closer to our families and find things that will help others. Our problems feel like they are really big until we meet someone who has a bigger problem than we do. So go help them.

The national Institute of mental health funded some research done by Zucker Hillside Hospital Recognition and Prevention Program. This program has worked with teenagers who were at risk for serious mental illness; they have done that kind of work for over a decade. Right now they are studying the effectiveness of Omega 3 fatty acids (fish oil) for treating psychiatric symptoms. This study was designed to test to see if Omega 3 fatty acids help young adults function better in school, work and other environments.

Barbara Cornblat, PhD and Director of the Recognition and Prevention Program stated, “Of the 300 adolescents who have participated in the RAP Program most have shown substantial improvement. If the study continues to show success, Omega 3 could offer a natural alternative to the range of medications and therapies now offered to RAP participants. Ultimately, the goal of the RAP Program is to intervene and prevent illness before symptoms get worse.”

What are Omega # fatty acids? Well they are critical for normal brain function and they have been studied for this purpose before.

This is absolutely a wonderful piece of news. I can see the day when a person goes to the doctor and says they are depressed and the doctor says, “You need some Omega 3 fatty acids”. Right now if you go to see the doctor he will give you some antidepressants which can cause some harmful side effects. There are many people in this nation that are still not aware of the fact that these drugs are harmful and so they take them and they don’t try to work on the actual problem that is making them depressed in the first place. Grant it sometimes a physical situation can cause a person to go into apathy about not feeling so good and not being so active. Getting help to do correct actions like exercise eat right and enjoy your family and friends can go a long way. And yes take some Omega # fatty acids.

Using natural supplements instead of abusing medications could keep you out of benzos rehab. But if you or someone you love needs help, call our hotline now at 1-877-340-3602.

Medicalnewstoday.com issued a report today stating that in 2004 there were concerns about antidepressant drugs being the cause of suicidal thoughts and behaviors in our youth. This concern prompted the FDA to issue a rare “black box warning.” There has been a new analysis of clinical trial data and it finds that treatment with the antidepressant fluoxetine did not increase – or decrease – suicidality in our youth and this was compared to a placebo treatment.

The findings of an analysis are published online Feb 6 in the Journal of Archives of General Psychiatry. The analysis was built on information from 41 trials and more than 9,000 patients. It also found that two different popular antidepressant drugs were effective at reducing suicidal behavior and depressive symptoms in adult and geriatric patients. Author of the report, Robert Gibbons, PhD, professor of medicine, health studies, and psychiatry at the University of Chicago Medicine is stating that, “the failure to replicate the link between antidepressants and suicide should reassure doctors about prescribing these drugs to depressed patients.” Gibbons said, “The key finding here, when we re-analyze all the patient-level longitudinal records in these studies, is that antidepressants neither increase nor decrease suicidal thoughts or behavior in children.”

When the FDA made the decision on the black box warning it was based on data from 25 clinical trials of newer antidepressant medications, including serotonin reuptake inhibitor drug fluoxetine, marketed as Prozac or Sarafem. The analysis from the trials revealed a small but significant increase in suicidal thoughts and behavior in children and young adults up to the age of 25.

Gibbons, who sat on the FDA panel that considered placing the black box warning on antidepressants, said he hoped the new results would reassure clinicians about the safety of the drugs.

This report is timely. There has been lots of bad press about these drugs and suicide being interlinked. So now someone has done a study, so they say, that proves these drugs are not linked to suicide. I myself would like to have more data than just that. More studies indicate that they do create harm.

Let’s talk about the hippocampus; what is that? That is an important element of the brain which is part of the limbic system and is largely involved in getting information together from short term memory to long term it also helps with spatial navigation. So when your body is stressed out the brain triggers the autonomic nervous system and this releases stress hormones to help the body deal with the stress. The hippocampus is the main area of the brain that helps with this response. Joan L Luby, MD is a professor of child psychiatry and she published online in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences Early Edition a study she did. She notes that children who had mothers that showed them love and affection at the start and so on; well these children have brains with a larger hippocampus and so their memory, stress responses and learning is better. Dr. Luby stated, “This study validates something that seems to be intuitive, which is just how important nurturing parents are to creating adaptive human beings. I think the public health implications suggest that we should pay more attention to parents’ nurturing, and we should do what we can as a society to foster these skills because clearly nurturing has a very big impact on later development.”

The study involved using brain imaging technology on children aged 7 to 10 years; they had been in a previous study of preschool depression conducted by Luby and a team about 10 years ago. The kids were watched and videotaped with their mother. The amount of support, help and understanding the mother gave made a difference.

I am with you on this Dr. Luby. Mother’s love and patience and understanding can go a long way. The research she is doing is just documents all of these knowingnesses we have. In fact we should be understanding to all people in our lives and most of all with our children. There are those that take advantage of people and tell them if they are having problems in their lives they need to take drugs. It seems that these people are trying to help you and so they give you an answer to your problems which mostly leads to you taking a drug. Be a good observer and confront your problems. If you think it comes from your childhood then go talk to your parents. Communication is a universal solvent. Which means you can dissolve any problem you have with just talking. Don’t resort to drugs if you are having problems. By all means if you are a parent give your children love and understanding.

Benzo addiction is a serious problem caused by people abusing their depression medications. Call 1-877-340-3602 now for help!
